The Body Knows

Get out of your head and back into your body.

Sunday Nights, 7–8 PM
The Lantern (SE Portland)
Begins August 30, 2026
$25/class (sliding scale available)

A guided movement practice rooted in somatic awareness, music, dance, and mindfulness.

No choreography. No dance experience required. Just a beautifully guided hour to move, notice, and reconnect with yourself.

What to Expect

You’ll arrive and settle in, then move through a guided musical journey.

I’ll offer gentle prompts to bring your attention to sensation, breath, emotion, energy, and different qualities of movement. There will also be stretches of space where you can simply move and listen.

You might sway, bop around, stretch, lie on the floor, dance wildly, or barely move at all. Or some combo of all that. Your body will know what to do.

There is no correct way to do it.

This Might Be Your Jam If…

  • You live in your head. (And want another way to listen to yourself.)

  • You want a Sunday-night reset. (A weekly ritual for feeling more grounded, connected, and alive.)

  • Silent meditation isn’t quite clicking. (You like guidance, music, and something physical to focus on.)

  • You want to move more freely. (Less form, less fitness, more feeling.)

  • You miss dancing. (But not necessarily choreography, mirrors, or getting it “right.”)

  • You’re curious about freestyle movement. (But want more guidance and containment than a wide-open dance floor.)

Why This Class Exists

Sometimes thinking harder isn’t the answer.

Our thoughts are one source of information, but they aren’t the only one. Our bodies are constantly giving us information through sensation, tension, breath, energy, emotion, and impulse.

Movement gives us another way to pay attention.

The Body Knows isn’t about believing your body always has “the answer.” It’s about learning to hear more of the information already available to you, and feeling more connected and alive in the process.

About Jen

I’ve been dancing since I was 4 years old.

Over the years, my own dance practice has evolved from technique and performance toward movement centered on sensation, expression, self-awareness, and feeling.

I’m also a professional life coach and longtime mindfulness practitioner. The Body Knows brings those worlds together: dance, somatic awareness, guided meditation, music, and curiosity.
